The future of IoT is here with WND UK
Sigfox is a low-power, wide area network (LPWAN) technology, designed from the ground up to leverage unlicensed frequency bands within the radio spectrum and offer low-cost, ubiquitous communication for connected IoT devices.
As the Sigfox Operator for the UK, WND UK has already deployed over 50 base stations across the UK, covering more than 34% of the population. We’re aiming for 95% population coverage, with around 1,800 base stations deployed across the UK by the end of 2018.
WND UK’s channel partners are launching innovative IoT solutions every day, targeting a growing range of real-world applications, from machine-to-machine communication to infrastructure capable of supporting entire smart cities.
Sigfox Operator for the United Kingdom
With Sigfox, developers can create simple connected devices. Sigfox is a software-based communication protocol, which means that all the complexity is cloud based, rather than embedding it within the devices themselves. This approach enables the use of very low-cost, low-power embedded devices.
Scalability is fundamental to the Sigfox architecture. Sigfox Network Operators like WND UK are launching the first global IoT network that is capable of listening to billions of objects. Because the IoT devices are not attached to the Sigfox network, there is no need to establish and maintain network connections.
WND UK is enabling the Internet of Things by connecting the physical and digital worlds through the Sigfox Network
Interoperability as standard
The simplicity of the Sigfox network even extends to our use of base stations. Sigfox base stations use a simple whip antenna and operate from a single 12V supply.
This simplicity is key to our deployment strategy and the scalability of the Sigfox network. There is no requirement for an internet gateway or to backhaul data over IP. The evolution of mobile communications, from cellular or mobile networks, to the latest short-range wireless protocols, means that interoperability is a pre-requisite for any new communications technology. Sigfox is compatible with many other communication standards including Bluetooth, GPS, GSM, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi.
Sigfox is proven technology, already deployed in over 32 countries and is being used by millions of devices worldwide.
“Sigfox is a reliable technology which has proved particularly useful for those devices that live in the field and have low power requirement. This has enabled a lot of new applications”Nick Pummell
